I’ve completely moved to social media

After giving it some thought I have completely moved to Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/RobertScoble

I am putting TONS of great content into there. If you aren’t on Facebook, I’m also on Twitter at http://www.twitter.com/scobleizer or on Google+ at https://www.google.com/+Scobleizer

Someday I might come back to the blog, but the world has moved and it is on social media.

Find it puzzling why you don't make all your posts here and auto share them on FB that way you have the best of both worlds with no additional typing.

There is NO WAY IN HELL I can do that. Have you visited my Facebook Profile? It is VERY interconnected into Facebook.

Robert Scoble you can do it the other way, and have your posts on social media networks auto-post to your blog, and even have the comments follow as well. http://sm2wp.com/ by Daniel Treadwell does it now for G+, and it will soon add Facebook and Twitter.

A current issue that search engines will have to resolve is how to properly measure and value those posts, since the activity shown on the blog will not be reflected in tools like Google Analytics, since it actually occurred on another site. In theory such information could be passed on from the originating site through an API, then it would be read/published in the blog post by the plug-in, where it would be read later by the search engine. There would have to be security features to prevent fraud from sites trying to game SEO ranking.

Robert Scoble It's difficult to write a wordpress blog but easy to post on Facebook - that's how I see it too :) You're taking an interesting and radical approach. Good for you!

Why not? Search Engines are defining what you have to do to manage your website to "Rank" in their search. Why play the game? There is a cost to you to keep up with the changes. Money in Google/Bing/Yahoo's pocket, not yours!

Google is defining what you have to do to manage your website to "Rank" your business model. If you don't, Search will penalize you.

If you are OK with a high bounce rate because Search doesn't understand your business strategy, why should you be penalized?

Loyalty and a following is built on how you manage your business model, not how Search engines tell you to run it!

The content publishing trend towards Web 2.0 reaches maturity when people actually start dropping new activity on their blogs in favor of Web 2.0 sites.

Content can be a main attraction to bring people to, and keep them on, a network like Facebook. As this move illustrates, traffic attracts content, content rewards visitation, which in aggregate equals traffic, in a virtuous circle.

People would rather have content delivered to them, where they already are, than to have to go find it on a blog. Their social interaction often works hand-in-hand with content.

At the moment the "Which comes first?" question favors the volume of people on Facebook attracting content, but I don't think that the current balance rules out a site with "enough" people adding features to publish content which are sufficient to attract people from Facebook. Instagram did it, although they were later purchased by Facebook.

It's straight forward to push new content via email on Wordpress as well as to FB & Twitter. I will be amazed if FB allow content, especially comments, to leave FB and appear on a blog

I'll check out your full explanatory video next, but as a shortcut for me and anyone else entering via this blog post, could you explain why you're going with Facebook instead of Google+?

Clearly FB has more users so that may be the Occam's Razor answer, but G+ is way more of an interest-based network where I find much more thoughtful discourse versus the personality/social (old school meaning, not media) inclined content of FB that can lean towards more than a few knee-jerk responses and whose audience would seem to be more in a non-work-related mindset.

I've read what you've posted about FB lists, and while that's accurate and clearly useful for you, the majority of users don't take advantage of lists. People who now follow you on FB won't see all your posts in News Feed (since aside from not using lists most also don't use Most Recent which gives them a better chance of seeing all posts).

Do you mentally switch channels in FB via your selective use of specific lists as a way to use FB as your primary social platform, going from work mode to friend mode to family mode? How do you perceive the trend - towards more single platform? Would you prefer focused behavior platforms but submit to a single platform out of audience trend, or do you actually want a single platform that allows personal customization to craft focused behavior as you've done with FB?

By the way, as a technology optimist, I'm a G+ supporter while also respecting FB. I see opportunity everywhere and seek to harness it appropriately.

Interesting. I am seeing a confusing between the terms "social media" and "social networking". Social media is media designed to create conversations, like a blog, and social networking is creating connections and conversation without the need for media. FB is designed to be a social networking site, and you are moving your social media to it. So now if I am interested in seeing anything of value you might have said here, I need to sort through your FB posts about your personal interests in order to find it. Not the best digital user experience, in my opinion, but best of luck with it.

If you follow 43K people like you do, your feed is going to blow. I ONLY follow those people of interest to me, which includes yourself. Very useful experience. If someone starts posting quotes, they are gone. Finally, I actually go to Twitter.com/scobleizer every day to read 100% of the stuff you post. So yes, I do see everything you post. Unlike Facebook.

I have tons of lists so I can do that too (most of my lists have very few people) but they still are VERY noisy.

By the way, on Facebook, if you use lists, you see everything as well!

Hmmm - YMMV of course, but I, too, post often on my Facebook, and yet I still find a role for blogging. For one thing you can't really "linkblog" very well on Facebook, and for another, you can't really post long think pieces. On the other hand if all you have is one picture and a pithy comment, or a quick link, then yep Facebook is perfect.

Anyway I enjoy your content wherever I can find it ... cheers

Yes, FB provides great analytics for brands/artists with actual Pages (with a capital P), but civilians aren't offered any analytics for personal pages. You can use short links to get some measurement for shared external URLs but that's about it.

But really, unless you're a Scoble level player you may not require much of a dashboard. You can gauge engagement for yourself based on visible data per post.
