Steven Sinofsky, check this out! (Steven is the guy who runs the Microsoft Office team and I believe is the highest ranking blogger currently at Microsoft).
I just was given access to an early version of 30 boxes and it’s going to be hot when it comes out. I have one word for my first trial: wow.
Thomas Hawk has the details. It’s beautiful. I wish Microsoft would buy this company and build this into Office Live and Windows Live.
Along this topic Scott Mace is doing a “Calendar Swamp” blog and is asking questions about the calendar that’ll come with Windows Vista. Steve Makofsky is blogging about the new Windows Calendar (those screen shots look awesome!) I’ll definitely follow up there with a video. I just subscribed to Calendar Swamp. Calendaring is joining mapping as an interesting space to watch.

[…] So, I was interested to read Matt Mullenweg speaking in glowing terms about the calendar functionality from 30 Boxes rapidly followed by similar sentiments from Scobleizer. […]
Seeing as this post is attracting weirdo comments, I thought it the ideal place to post this:
When the time (inevitably) comes for Scoble: The Movie to be made, can I make a shout now for Philip Seymour Hoffman to play our Robert?

Separated at birth, I wonder?

Shit, that is bad. An excellent post followed by a troll… But, I thought you were moderating your comments… Apparently, you are not.
I have been hearing bout 30 boxes for quite some time and I am eagerly waiting to try it out. I am so waiting for Sunday.

Shrikant Joshi

Shrikant: I deleted the comment in mind. Sorry about that. I don’t moderate comments but I will delete spam or comments that don’t have anything to do with technology.

You forgot the second one, Robert… (yeah, I am quite a nitpicker…) But, nice to see you respond.
Shit, I am so waiting for sunday…
PS: (Secret.Revealed: I am a poor planner. I hope 30B can help me organ-a-zize.)

If it schedules meetings among users and rooms, I will be able to toss Outlook/Exchange once and for all (the only critical app running on Windows).
That’ll be nice!

WTF, Scoble!?
And there you have it: The reason there are sooo many M$FT bashers (and Scoble bashers) and disproportionate amount of M$FT criticism is the overriding theme of “let’s buy them/that”.
How about innovating for a change, Mr. Scobleizer? Perhaps that’s a foreign concept to you and the rest of Gates, Inc.
Spend less time and money on M&A (or, more specifically - “A”) and more on R&D and get out of your rut.
If I had a penny for every time Scoble chanted “I wish Bill/Steve would buy” some new technology or company…I’d have a whole lotta pennies.

jAynBAiley: you’d have three pennies if I’m counting right.
When someone outside Microsoft does something innovative I’m all for an acquisition. Not everything cool will come from within Microsoft.

Wireless World: Real-time Head & Shoulders
CHICAGO, Feb. 3 (UPI) — A customer at a retail store picks a bottle of shampoo off the shelf, heads to the cashier, and pays for the product. The radio frequency identification (RFID) tag on the item sends a notice to the store’s network — alerting it that inventory has been reduced. The network automatically communicates with computers at the shipping center of the shampoo maker, which triggers a shipping notice that more shampoo is on the way to replenish the dwindling stocks of Head and Shoulders.
This vision of the retail store of the future may start to come into existence in the coming year, experts tell United Press International’s Wireless World. By Gene Koprowski

[…] Scoble is talking about 30 Boxes, a new calendar app. I’d like a web-based calendaring solution. I plan to check it out when the beta launches this Sunday. Explore posts in the same categories: Web […]
Thanks for for giving Steve Sinofsky a little prod on this, Scoble. The MS calendaring scenario has been embarassingly broken for a long time. It doesn’t delight this customer to have it be so hard to share calendars outside of the Exchange environment. I can’t be the only one who is very frustrated that I can’t easily have my business-related committments in Outlook, and see a shared calendar with my family at the same time.

30 Boxes beta on February 5th
Thomas Hawk of Thomas Hawk’s Digital Connection fame emailed me today about 30 Boxes, an online calendaring application I wrote about previously. He’s written up an extensive beta preview/review for those of us who don’t get to play …
It says beta testers only, right? How does one become a 30boxes beta tester? Should I try to get Nicolas and Laurent to give them coComment access codes?

[…] At least no matter what you say about 30 Boxes, it’s not as god awful as Kiko. Talk about a bad idea taken to extremes. […]

[…] There’s a bit of a buzz right now (well, two people who I read, but others, too, right behind them) around web-based calendars. However, while there’s a lot of enthusiasm both Lloyd and Joel are unhappy with them. Both cite small features missing which prevent them using them. For Lloyd it’s the stubborn US-centric date format, for Joel its their inability to mark in his flights among other things. […]
[…] Listen, I know that everybody is saying that the cool thing to do these days is Ship Early and Often, but when you ship half-baked ajax calendars that don’t do much and then get Scoble to go nuts about how great they are, well, you’re going to have a lot of people like me checking it out…when you get premature publicity, lots of people check out your thing, and it’s not done yet, so now most of the people that tried your thing think it’s lame, and now you have two problems: your thing is lame and everybody knows it. […]
I tried 30 Boxes earlier this week. The first thing I tried to schedule was a repeating meeting with an end date. Guess what? You can’t do that! You can have repeating meetings, but they repeat *forever*. Hello?? I do like the ease of sharing items with ‘buddies’, but there just seem to be many critical features missing.

I think the issue is that nothing cool ever comes out of Microsoft.
BTW checkout Joyent if you can. Actually show it to your engineers so they can realize what good user experience really means.

Sunny: nice fud. I wonder why all those people stood in line for 24 hours during Christmas to buy “nothing cool?”

Decrease the supply (because some moron overestimated interest in Japan), and call it “huge interest”. You stole this from the Apple playbook as well.

Isn’t it ironic that the picture at the top of the page includes one of the oldest living organism on the planet, and the subject of this thread is calendaring.
Can the 30B calendar express dates in tree rings?
