The cool new thing from Steve Jobs? Um, no…

Is this a preview of what’s coming later today from Steve Jobs? 😉 It’s ArtRage 2. The first one was only for the Tablet PC. The second one is for Mac and Windows. I hear it’s coming real soon. Hmmm, is Apple coming out with a Tablet? Using ArtRage with a normal mouse isn’t even close to as satisfying. I can’t wait to get my hands on this. I wonder if Larry Larsen is beta testing it (his gallery of ArtRage produced images is cool).

Anyway, I’m off to bed, just woke up in the middle of the night to see this.

  1. […] My goodness these pictures are good - not necessarily the artwork (although there are some great ones in there) but the way it was done. All the ‘paintings’ were done on a Tablet PC using some software called Art Rage. (via Scoble)   […]

  2. Stop the clock, it’s the first Mac Tablet post of the year.

That’s been what, two or three years in a row now? ;-P

  4. Wow, i’m impressed with ArtRage 2.

It looks really good, and just adds to what I like with the original ArtRage. So Robert, are you planning to fly to New Zealand to do any interview with the ArtRage team anytime soon? 😛

  6. You wouldn’t use Artrage with a mouse on a PC or Mac. Digitizer tablets have existed for desktop computers for between 20 and 30 years before the tablet PC was made. Granted it’s not as nice as seeing the brush strokes appear right below the stylus, but the skilled artist can adapt, and unlike the tablet PC it means you can run the software on a sufficiently fast PC so you don’t have the painful lag that tablet PCs do.

  8. “Granted it’s not as nice as seeing the brush strokes appear right below the stylus…”

True. That’s why there’ve been digitizer tablets with LCD screens around for at least 5 years now.

  10. I don’t know what you mean by “The first one was only for the Tablet PC.” Um, no.. I’ve been using ArtRage version 1.1.2 on my Macs for months - with a Wacom Graphire - and having a ball with it.

Here’s the link to download ArtRage v1 for Mac or Windows:

  12. ArtRage 1.1 for Mac OS X has been out for some time now, been using it for a while with my old Wacom.

  14. What can I say… I’m very sorry I woke you in the middle of the night! Self flagellation has been performed.
And yes, ArtRage 1.1 has been available for the Mac since the middle of last year.
And yes, ArtRage works beatifully with a graphics tablet on a standard PC as well as on TabletPCs.

  16. Scobie, Scobie… You’ve already lost and welched on one bet? Would you like to lose another? Shouldn’t cost you anything since you welch.

  18. I can neither confirm nor deny what I may or may not be beta testing at any given moment.

As for the debate about using a Wacom on a desktop computer, it isn’t even close to using Art Rage on a Tablet. With a desktop and Wacom, you’re moving the pen in one area of your desk and looking at your monitor. When you’re painting like that it’s like patting your head while you rub your stomach. With a Tablet, you’re looking at the pen touching the surface you’re painting. That may sound like a slight difference, but it’s a gap that makes all the difference in the world.

    Tablets dominate.

  22. […] A heads up that makes sense from Scoble, with Ambient Design mentioning that the award winning ArtRage for Tablet PC has its second version due out “real soon now” but also has the tiny writing “for Mac OS X” on the site as well. LEt’s be frankm, ArtRage does not work with a mouse, you need a Tablet PC and pen to really work. And while a graphics tablet might be one option, the other option, given it’s that “one more thing” time of year, could mean a Mac Tablet…. […]

I just joined wordpress… how’d you get to personalize your page so you have your own picture up the top?

I must sound like such an idiot.
