Leo’s "NetAtNite" uses TalkShoe to take callers

Leo Laporte continues innovating on his TWiT network, just started net@nite where he and Amber MacArthur takes calls from listeners. This brings talk radio to the Internet. On today’s show they have Nick Douglas, formerly of Valleyway on, among other things. Very cool show. Destined to go to the top of iTunes. Yes, even better than my show.

Nick Douglas does admit he’s working on a video show, says “video is the future.”

Um, yeah, Nick, I figured that out more than two years ago! :-)

Oh, Leah Culver has a great advertising idea. She charged to etch logos into her new laptop. Ahh, there’s a GETV logo on there. Hey, I didn’t see THAT expense report yet Eddie! Don’t worry, I’ll approve it. ;-)

Neat way to use the ScobleShow

I like what Axosoft did. They gave my viewers a special deal on their development-team software. Just a note: no one on the ScobleShow has paid to get on there. Well, except my sponsor, Seagate, and they haven’t had a video on the show yet (that’ll change tomorrow sometime when an interview I did with Seagate’s CEO will be up, along with a few other videos).

Engadget’s Peter Rojas on Marketing Voices

Jennifer Jones scored an interview with Peter Rojas, the guy behind Engadget, our favorite gadget site. Heheh, he hands out his phone number for you to leave a message about a gadget too.

Albert says "steal my content, please!"

He isn’t the only one to ask me to link blog more of his content. Seems that when I link to people they get lots of hits. Maryam saw this effect too.

I’m wondering why this is so? After all, my link blog has the full content of almost anything I put on there.

My theories? You want to read the comments. Or, you want to write one. Or, you love the post so much you want to see what else that person has written. Or, maybe, you want to look at the beautiful design cause you can’t see that in your RSS reader or on my link blog.

So, what is it? Why do you click on links in my link blog?

Linux geek cooks up food blog

Jason Perlow, founder of eGullet.com, and contributing editor to Linux Magazine, has a food blog, I hear, titled “Off the Broiler.”

The things I learn about geeks when I go off the technology track here.

2007 Predictions…

Alright, it isn’t even Thanksgiving yet, but what the heck? Got any good predictions? I don’t even remember what I predicted last year (they always are wrong so why bother looking back?) but, here’s my first:

Microsoft will issue a press release in February saying “Windows Vista is best selling operating system ever.” This will happen no matter what we say about it.

Startups in Seattle list

I love this idea. I wonder why other regions haven’t done it yet? Marcelo Calbucci has a list of startups in Seattle (includes VCs and other influentials too). I took the OPML file and imported it into Google Reader.

File server-based conversion service opens

Now THIS is a cool Web 2.0 app (hey, I beat TechCrunch!).

It’s called ZAMZAR and it converts file formats. Hundreds of them.

The only thing lame about it is that it only does 100MB files.

I need it to do up to 300 MBs. I’d pay for that.

Even better this was done by two brothers in the UK. Hey, maybe I can get them on camera next week?

Google-bombing (or reversing the damage, anyway)

Stephanie in Switzerland talking about Lush bath products

I have no idea why I’m watching Stephanie Booth (who is a school teacher in Switzerland) video herself talking about Lush bath products, but as long as it doesn’t get me a divorce, I guess it’s OK.

Lush’s stuff sounds like good Christmas gifts to get, though. Stephanie writes more about Lush here. Might be good for male geeks to buy their significant others.

Stephanie is usually ahead of the curve. She got me to start tagging stuff when I met her at LIFT last year. I am a bad Scoble, bad. I haven’t tagged in quite a while. Why? I’m using Windows Live Writer and tagging there isn’t very nice.

Speaking of Maryam, she leaves me little hints that the laundry needs to be done on her blog.

I agree with Doc, killing Flickr, the brand, would open the field up

Doc Searls is among the best marketing minds we have alive today and he warns Yahoo not to kill off the Flickr brand (in response to a thought-provoking post by Richard MacManus which was in response to the now-famous “leaked” memo).

Speaking of Flickr, tomorrow morning you might see us in San Francisco’s tea garden shooting photos with Flickr employee Heather Powazek Champ. Heather’s photography rocks, I’ve been looking forward to spending an hour or two with her and Thomas Hawk (who is CEO of Zooomr, which competes with Flickr).

Flickr is probably my favorite online brand. The fact that Thomas has been trying for months to get me to Zooomr and hasn’t been able to demonstrates how sticky that brand is.

I had to stop blogging for PhilTube

Rich Levin (the guy who first told me blogging was a fad way back in January of 2001) emailed me which pissed me off already cause I’m blogging and didn’t need yet another interruption. But, Rich only sends me good time wasters so I clicked on the link to PhilTube. Hey, Rich, if you’re gonna interrupt my blogging for your links, they better be good. PhilTube doesn’t come up to your usual high bar. But, what the heck, it did give me a blog post, so thanks!

To understand this post, you need to waste your time and watch the video.

Well, now that that’s over, Chris Coulter is upstairs editing videos and I’m doing email. More than 1,000 to go. Yikes, I’m email bankrupt.

What the hell, I’m watching another PhilTube.

Hugh Macleod on video

Steve Clayton does two things. One, gets a video of Hugh Macleod “ScobleShow style.” Hugh writes those cartoons that everyone loves to hate or hates to love or something like that. Me? I love them and can’t wait to hang out with Hugh in London next week. Two: gets me to try out Microsoft’s new Soapbox player interface. Looking good! But what’s up with the 4:3 format? Go 16:9 Microsoft and let’s get rid of the old video format and make it look just as lame on the Web as it does on my HDTV screen at home.

Make helps Geeks survive Thanksgiving!

Funny given my earlier post, Make Magazine just posted a whole guide on how to have a good Thanksgiving. I love Make Magazine!

Geeks on video!

We have Betsy Aoki, the BlogQueen of Microsoft. We have Hamid Shojaee, CEO of Axosoft (really cool bug/issue reporting system), And we have Adam Gross, vice president of Salesforce. All on ScobleShow today.

More geeks tomorrow (oh, and another Photowalking!)

Know where Scoble is at every single minute of the day

Yes, I too have joined Twitter. I’m late to the cool kids party on Twitter. How do I know that? A ton of my friends are already in there. You too can see what I’m doing. Ahh, that’s too boring? Well, then, follow Evan Williams around. He’s the founder. Eddie Codel is on there too (he’s my employee, so I can track what he’s doing without calling him and bugging him, gotta get Irina on this). Of course, since we’re sitting at the same table right now, I don’t need to read his Twitter page to know what he’s doing.

Scott Beale says Twitter is being Scobleized.

Little game, who has the most Web 2.0 founders and/or CEOs on their Twitter membership accounts?

UPDATE: weirdly enough a few articles about Twitter just showed up on TechMeme.

FoodCrunch, what happens when VCs get into food

Paul Matteucci, one of the VC’s who funded PodTech, writes a good foodie blog called “FoodCrunch.”

That makes me wonder: who has the best food blog? Even better, who has the best Thanksgiving Day recipes? What’s the best way to cook a turkey? Yes, inquiring geeks want to know this. After all, our families are coming over and we want to impress them with everything we’ve learned on Google in the past year.

Talking about Web 2.0 might be fun for geeks, but it won’t feed your parents.

Oh, and it wouldn’t suprise me if FoodCrunch were acquired by TechCrunch. Imagine a whole “Crunch” family of blogs. Yikes, that’s scary. But why else would Mike Arrington be trying to leave the valley for a couple months? I smell “VacationCrunch” or maybe “SkiCrunch” coming soon to a blog near you.

Anyway, Paul has a whole foodie blog portal up on FoodCrunch.com too, in addition to the blog linked above.

Oh, my groggy head…

Great weekend. In between the sex, drugs, and rock and roll (not really, we’re geeks, remember, but Maryam was serving some sort of cranberry drink that we suspect was spiked which I think is responsible for my groggy head this morning) we visited PodCamp and the over-the-top Laughing Squid party. The later one we visited with a limo, which was fun (Maryam rented it to take Chris and Ponzi and a bunch of other partiers to Asia SF, which is well known for its yummy food and its waitstaff, we’ll let you Google to figure out why they are known for that. Let’s just say it’s a stereotypical San Francisco experience).

Anyway, back to real life. I just threw a bunch of things on my link blog.

Oh, and another thing. We leave for Europe on Friday. More on that later, but there’s gonna be a geek dinner in London next week. Oh, I see my name is on the London Girl Geek Dinner list for November 29th. I guess Maryam is inviting me, cause the only way guys can get into this one is to be brought by a female.

Although, I wonder, could the waitstaff at Asia SF get in?

Back to geek stuff, though. At PodCamp I met Robbie Trencheny of the Teen Podcasters Network. He’s 14 and has dozens of teens doing podcasts. Real smart kid. Patrick and him have been talking. I wonder what will come of that?

Webshots adds video to photosharing service

Thomas Hawk reports that two services added video to their service offerings (Vizrea and Webshots). I talked with Webshots execs today and it sounds very cool. I’m off to check it out.

Stewart Butterfield, co-founder of Flickr, told me they are working on video too. So, it’ll be interesting to see which service really gets this right.

Why does this matter?

Because most digital still cameras now also do video. So, as people figure that out they’ll be looking for places to put their videos. Most probably have heard of YouTube so it’ll be interesting to see if these services can get people to post videos there instead of on YouTube or other video services.

Geeks on Friday night

Four geeks. Two male. Two female. Everyone is on computers. We’re IM’ing each other. It’s quite sad. Oh, except Chris just posted about the sadness of this. Which got us all to talk. Heheh.

Hope you’re doing something better with your Friday evening.
