RSS: meet Pointcast (from: Amit Malhotra)

wired push

Remember Pointcast? Pointcast! with its kludgy fat client, at one time spurned a $400 million offer only to sold, afew years later for pennies on thedollar. Why would they spurn a $450 million even at the peak of internet mania. Maybe, because as early as ‘97 Wiredand BusinessWeek were calling for Push to transform the Web!  Why sell for $450 when you can get billions! Soundsvery familiar, eh? Only this time, it will change theworld!

Anyways, FWIW, PointCast was actually a really cool app. RSS may yet deliver on that promise by fixing many itsshortcomings. Over at O’Reilly, Mark Sigal proposes a hypothetical son of pointcast called CornerScreen. Anytakers?
