This recent ranty post by Robert Scoble just basically describes the reasons why I want to pursuit a (high-paying) career at Microsoft. Many people (including one of my last semester lecturers) think Microsoft is naturally evil and everything they do is incompetent. But a comment to that post responds to that very well, comparatively Apple when designing their OS only has to deal with a handful set of hardware mixes and a small amount of softwares, on the other hand, Microsoft has millions of hardware mixes to deal with and a staggering amount of legacy and varying softwares to compensate.
Microsoft has such a nice work culture and environment that can probably be not matched by any other company in the world, probably because they have the resources to do so. Microsoft products may not be perfect, but it doesn’t become better with people standing still and whine. And thats why I want to work for Microsoft. Its not about what it is now, its about changing the future.
