Ignore other bloggers! by Rich…! (from: Rich…!)

Splattermail got me thinking (that’s something you don’t read everyday).

- KEO is South Africa’s most successful blog.
- Over 5 million hits
- Posts with over 300 comments on posts
- Nominated for the SAblogawards (then again, so were we)
- They are the hub of heated debate

Now. Pause for a sec and have a look at their technorati stats.

They are virtually ignored by other bloggers, and vice versa. On paper, this is an unsuccessful blog, but the paper’s wrong. Their recipe is a few South African rugby celebrity bloggers, and focused topical (rugby) content. That’s it.

If you look at people that comment on their site, very few, if not none, are bloggers; yet it’s still viral - the old fashioned way, friends calling, and emailing friends.

There’s a whole world out there of non-bloggers that could well be our reader base, how do we find them? That’s the real challenge, that’s where the real numbers are.

The other bloggers are the easy bit…!
