Very thorough recap of a recent Malcolm Gladwell talk (from: Elisa Camahort’s Personal Weblog)

The symphony orchestrastory makes it into every recap I ever see of either Gladwell’s book or hisspeakingevents.
Why?
Becauseit resonates. It resonates with the minority in any field that although theirway might not be blocked entirely, it is impeded in ways that are hard toidentify, prove, quantify etc. This story (and others in Gladwell’s book)validates that there are subjective biases in even theoretically objectivedecisions.
Perhaps also because hisstories about snap judgments let people blame unconscious bias, rather than copto actual racism, sexism etc.
Worth aread if you’re a Gladwell fan, or if you’d like a real peek into the book,”Blink”.
