There’s another pair of white headphones in Redmond. I picked up a new music device this past week. You know, I’ve struggled with which is the right device after busting my iPod back in October. I almost bought an Iriver H10 while on vacation, but didn’t make it back the store. I came home empty handed.
Omar’s review of the Zen Micro is what pushed me over the edge. I picked one up this week and once again I’ve got portable music! I’m very happy with the device.
Immediately, upon opening the box I flashed the device with a beta of the firmware. Updating to the beta firmware turned the device into a fully compliant PlaysForSure device. In other words it supports subscription services like Napster To Go and syncing of playlists from Windows Media Player 10. I was able to uninstall the Creative Software from my PC and just use Windows Media 10.
So far Napter To Go is working quite well for me. I like a wide variety of music. On any given day I might listen to Glenn Campbell (yes I am serious
), AC/DC, Toby Keith or even something classical. I like lots of music, but don’t enjoy paying 99 cents per song. With this device I can pay $14.95 per month and keep filling up the device with lots of different tunes. Its great and the wife acceptance factor is very good too. In fact Lauri asked me on the way out to the lake today if we could load it up with some tunes and listen to it in the car. I brought along the cassette adapter for my XM Radio and it worked great!
I’ve also started to listen to Podcasts, it was pretty ironic that the first Daily Source Code I listened to was recorded with his Creative Zen Micro on a British Airways flight home.
To download the Podcasts, I’m using Doppler Radio and am listening to the following:
TechPodcasts.com is a great directory of technical podcasts where I found the Software As She’s Developed show.
Anyhow its great to once again have a portable music device again, have a great weekend!
