  29. Hang in there - i think Tablet functionality is important, I use it, but not every day, and I would be very sad to see it go. I think it adds certain additional functionality that is vitally important. Like I say in my longer blogpost here (http://www.espen.com/archives/2005/11/yabhtu.html) I really hope Microsoft has some staying power on this one (as well as the laptop vendors) - changes in use take time, and the technology is not enough evolved yet.

I’ve seen it on the front-lines (believe me), most famously (to bloggers) Peter Rysavy and then Conrad himself, but heck even CEOs, Hyatt was driven to Macs after Tablets. Tablet has lost as many as it has gained, if not more.

    Me? I am in the middle, big fan of Pen Computing itself, but Tablet is no Dynabook, sotospeak. Will withhold final judgement until Vista and OneNote 2. But it’s always the same cast of characters, repeating the same tired script (minus some, like HPClean), same dead-men-walking Tablet team on the eternal Tech and Educational conference romps and the same generic developers cooking up the same usual Early Adopter rot, with the big developers not seeing enough demand to care, and the same MVPIsh religiously zealotish fanboys as “community”, playing the usual inside-baseball Microsoft games, the same over-the-top Gates hubris that never gets reflected in terms of real action. It’s been more than 4 years for me and the storyline has never changed, well minus the backtracking on training and touchscreen. Wake me up in 2 years or so.

    And oh, you do know the Microsoft buzzword is NOT Tablet anymore? Rather “Ultra-mobile PC” or “Mobile PC”. Har har har. Beyond lame.

But it’s always the same cast of characters, repeating the same tired script (minus some, like HPClean), same dead-men-walking Tablet team on the eternal Tech and Educational conference romps and the same generic developers cooking up the same usual Early Adopter rot, with the big developers not seeing enough demand to care, and the same MVPIsh religiously zealotish fanboys as “community”, playing the usual inside-baseball Microsoft games, the same over-the-top Gates hubris that never gets reflected in terms of real action. It’s been more than 4 years for me and the storyline has never changed, well minus the backtracking on training and touchscreen. Wake me up in 2 years or so.

    And oh, you do know the Microsoft buzzword is NOT Tablet anymore? Rather “Ultra-mobile PC” or “Mobile PC”. Har har har. Beyond lame.
