Bing Tweets! *

by Robert Scoble on July 1, 2009

TechCrunch and others are saying that Microsoft’s Bing search engine is adding Tweets soon.

Microsoft has finally figured out the strategy to compete with Google. Cut Google where they are weak. Keep cutting. Bing!

This strategy is winning. Google is losing market share and hasn’t yet figured out how to respond.

Hint to Google: your UI is stale. Your search results are, while getting faster (FriendFeed and Twitter posts are now getting into Google within a few minutes) still not real time and you haven’t shown any real time leadership.

But where’s Yahoo? Carol? Hello? Twitter is happening now and you need to get involved in this before Bing Tweets and gives you a headache.

Oh, it’s not on yet. I hate it when news leaks before the feature is ready to test.

UPDATE: My asterisk * is because it turns out that only popular Twitterers will get this feature turned on. That is totally lame and leaves a huge hole for Yahoo and Google to crawl through.

  • Google has indexed this post allready, Bing has not.

    I rest my case.

i can´t find video porn on bing ¬¬

"But it’s important to note that Bing will not be crawling every tweet that runs through Twitter. Instead, it will focus on only those from people it deems important based on follower counts and volume of tweets"

That limits its usefulness. Only the big players and the SUL will get heard. Also it updates once a minute not in real time.

if you read Suchter's blog entry, the unsaid implication is this - they needed to get something out quickly to build some mojo, and they'll go back to the well for more. I seriously doubt that if they start getting click-through to Twitter search results, that they'll leave their index 'stale' with just a few thousand high profile accounts. That would be putting a toe in the water, finding it delightful, and then leaving the scene, aka insane.
  • For me Bing is a great sign from MS to all the others ...Google, etc. MS is back to Internet ,its good for us and I hope to see soon some new products as well
  • Facebook User
I'm starting to really dig(no pun intended) Bing. The daily photo on the homepage filled with interesting tidbits keeps me going back. Best of all, Bing feels so lightweight, a stark contrast to Yahoo's all encompassing service. I'd like to see "Bing Profiles", Google's doing it, why not Bing.
  • They already DO have profiles- its called windows live spaces...
  • "Only popular Twitterers will get this feature turned on"? Will wait and see on that one. I trust that by popular it's anyone with 500 more @responses as opposed to just automated feeds. :) I like aggregation, but being relational as a human being is more natural and feels right.

Good move by MS. But they should have added all uses. What are they gonna do If Facebook allows status message indexing? index only those who have more than 100 friend?
  • I have seen one search engine which have a live stream potential and is at http://collecta.com/
  • Bing already does have profiles- its called live spaces... I wonder if they will just rebrand everything BING on windows live now..
  • Not sure if another summize will do the trick. Bing and Google will have t come with something better than that. And indexing "A" tweeters is totally lame.
  • Why do we need bing tweets when we have twitter search?
  • Bing that Google!!
  • I think Google make their indexing period more effecting. Because everyday and every minute Google index pages very quickly as compare to other search engines or Bing. Google is Google
  • Well i really like the new search engine called bing. I really like its features. Its simply the best. I think it can compete with google and push back the google. I am using it for searching and i am highly satisfied with it. Its simply the best. I can't say any more.
