Google is taking over the mobile world

Tonight Google.com was updated for iPhone. I film a little demo on Seesmic. TechCrunch broke the news as far as I can tell (Google Reader is getting damn fast at bringing me everyone’s blogs).

Anyway, this is yet more reasons I’ll be using Google on mobile phones.

I’m even ready to eat my words about Android since Verizon announced they’d be supporting Google’s new mobile OS.

And have you tried the new “My Location” feature on Google’s mobile maps? That rocks — I’ve used it dozens of times over the past week and it makes using Google Maps on a cell phone a LOT more useful.

Is anyone else getting you to use its services on mobile phones?

Oh, Sean Percival says “I like it” on his Seesmic video about the iPhone.

UPDATE: MG Siegler has a more complete review, which talks about the new auto suggesting feature which does, indeed, rock.

UPDATE2: David Jacobs says “holy crap” and “it’s amazing.”

I only use Google on my old crappy windows mobile phone. Google reader and the google maps application are my favorites but i use gmail/search and calendar as well.

Google reader is also my main rss reader so for me it’s the only way to be in sync when mobile.

Google has it right with My Location. We all need directions at some point, they have developed a way for us to get these directions regardless of our local knowledge of the area…for FREE!

My Location rocks! Before it I had no use for Google Maps (my pearl does not have GPS) but now things are different. I use My Location with directions almost daily, not to mention the great traffic feature.

    Thanks Google!

    Scoble,

Thanks for letting me know. I have been using GR on the iPhone for a while now and this is a great way of aggregating all the Google services on 1 screen. :-)

The Google iPhone update at first blush is nice, but it’s a bit of a mess. It is nice to be able to access the Google services, but the reader implementation is OK if you just want to review feeds quickly — comments on Scobleizer, for example, aren’t visible in the iPhone GR feed, and if you try to access the actual website from within Reader (which I do a lot on my work PC and laptop), the formatting of your site is very iPhone unfriendly, and there are all sorts of errors in rendering the page.

Hopefully, Google will be able to work on this a bit more and polish it up. Right now, the Facebook iPhone interface is a *much* better implementation.

Allowing the user to customize the interface would be a good thing…
