Here’s Bret Taylor on my new video camera talking about Google’s Gears. He manages developer products at Google and we have a seven minute conversation about Google Gear, the new developer API that lets Web developers build offline applications.
Why did I put this up on Blip.tv? Because I used my new Sanyo Xacti video camera and am experimenting. This is a little shaky, sorry about that.

Robert, using your new camera to post timely interviews is great. Your “formal” videos take a long time to edit and post so this is a great format for interviews where the content is more important than a final polished video.

And how do we view this on an iPod? It’s not showing up on your iTunes channel, nor on PodTech with a download link. Your RSS feed only gives a .flv file which is difficult to deal with.

I have already chucked together some code to cache my blog at the press of a button. Really easy to use, this could really be the beginning of the desktop web.
I can also see every company suddenly requiring all their key pages (e.g. contacts) be setup so that auto-cache under google gears. So that they can be access when people need them!

This is very, very timely. Gears is a big, big deal, as it also really reduces the complexities of writing apps for desktop … and gives you global sync for free!
