Google Reader widget for WordPress.com

Christian Burns is here talking to me and he showed me his Google Reader widget. Look at the right side of his blog. He’s using Google Reader and sharing items with his readers, just like I do, but he uses the WordPress.com’s widget to share the most recent shared items.

    isn’t he just using the “add a clip to your site” feature from google reader? It gives you a little snippet of code to paste and you can put it on any site.

    It is a nifty feature, but unless I am missing something here, this is not wordpress.com specific.

    I had this on my sidebar for a while - using the javascript supplied by Google - but it would take forever to load, so I took it off.

    WP.com lets you share any public RSS feed this way, with their standard RSS widget. It’s pretty cool.

    Its just the wordpress.com sidebar widget for RSS, but I like that I can add it right there along with my del.ico.us links and family blog feed. It doesn’t slow my page from loading that I can tell because it is not the Google javascript widget. I wish more bloggers would expose their shared Google Reader feed.

    The problem with exposing the raw RSS is that it gets picked up by Technorati as links. Maybe that is something you desire.

    I actually intend to do something similar with the blogs from my Technorati favorites, which I reciprocate with my readers and then add to Google Reader.
    For many of my readers it is the first favorite that they receive, and I hope this helps with Technorati identifying their blog as a real blog, and visiting it regularly.

    Do a “View source” on his web page, and see for yourself how the guy is putting the full content of pointed articles in title attributes, therefore self-promoting himself to higher ranks.

    Rule number one when you are on the web : be honest.

    Scoble, you can’t stop pointing at bogus stuff. When you have some spare time, rename your blog “The Deculpablizer”

    We have some really cool stuff coming down the pike here at NewsGator… we are going to be putting out some fantastic tools for bloggers. The idea is to create completely customizable widgets that allow publishers to pull in relevant content and share with their readers. Very cool!

    I have a couple of buzz boxes on my space that show some of what we have to look forward to. Saty tuned for this to come to a blog near you real soon!

    Have you seen feevy (http://feevy.com)? It allows to put a blogroll (say, your link blog) on your wordpress sidebar. It will get updated automatically as you share more stuff.
