Am I Zune to have a portable media player from Microsoft?
Michael Gartenberg says “Zune is real.” Zune is Microsoft’s new entry coming into the media player space. Hey, so when we gonna have ZuneCasting? Real Zune now!
Oh, and the sign he shot a picture of is a real hoot too. Seems someone is getting a divorce! Update: Oh, it’s a viral campaign for some TV courtroom series. Heheh. I love the opening wording: do I have your attention now? Calling Steve Gillmor, calling Steve Gillmor!
Yes, Maryam, if I use Zune in another sentence you can file divorce proceedings. ;-)
Update 2: Maryam just wrote about the upside of divorce. Oh, how nice. But she isn’t being all that honest. There’s a lot of downsides to it too. Starting with alimony.

Zune Just Announced; Already Late
Microsoft is just annnounced their “Ipod-killer” (?), Zune. They are already late, as usual…or they should call it Zuly.

But will Zune pass the Patrick test?

My 15 year old just called me from vacation asking how “Zune” until we get one. ;-) Seriously he was already salivating and asking if I could get one while I am in Redmond next week and I had to tell him to hold on a bit. Looks like I better start saving my pennies.

From the Engadget comments:

http://comingzune.com/images/ComingZune_wallpaper.jpg
I am not sure what it means — but it looks sort of childhood nightmare scary, in a Tim Burton-esque kind of way… “Oh look, it’s a bunny! and, uh, a retarded, bald, atomically-mutated giant with bad teeth and five o’clock shadow… and it’s stroking the bunny… sort of erotically…”
The urge (URGE?) is to assign some kind of meaning to the dreamlike images: “So the retarded giant is Microsoft, and the bunny is… no, wait… the bunny is Zune, and it’s activated by stroking… no…”
Then I thought, “Some marketing company got paid MILLIONS to come up with that…”
The song is on the iTunes Music Store. :-)
It is also on Microsoft’s/MTV URGE service, but I can’t figure out how to copy the URL to the song :-)
One advantage to URGE is that I was able to play the entire video for the song for free (and thus hear the whole song). The chorus has repeating lyrics about a “den of thieves” (hmmm) and how “it’s contagious” (hmmmmmmm).
The music video was preceded by a public service announcement suggesting that marijuana was bad. And MTV developed this service?

The beautiful song is Regina Spektor’s “Contagious”.
And they have ruined it with this stupid marketing gimmick/animation

when Microsoft decides to enter a market, you can’t ignore the impact they will make.
Sure you can, SPOT, UMPC, Tablet, WiFi and router hardware, Search…and on and on, and when they do get marketshare per things like Xbox, it be something that will run them billions for a 2nd place slot, which is what this will be, billions for a second place shot.

That Frankenstein meathead heavy-petting the rabbit in a quasi-bestiality thought process way, is quite umm, disturbing.
Dang, what marketing lunkheads. I can’t imagine they test-cased that to anyone. If they did, they what, musta injected them all with plutonium-239 beforehand?

I’ve heard they will compete by giving you the music you have on you ipod for free therefore you aren’t losing any money on switching other than the cost of the Zune.
And as for the comment above me, Zune gets released next month so there are no dealers right now.
