Really great video content was just released by the TED conference. I’ve never been to this conference, but it has a huge reputation and if you look at the speakers you’ll see why. Hans Rosling, for instance, has an amazing data visualization talk. Tony Robbins is the world’s leading motivational speaker. I’m watching his talk right now. And those are just the first two I’ve watched.
I was just emailing with Tom Rielly who worked on this project. He said they reedited each talk using the feeds of all five cameras. They discovered that they needed a different editing style for small format video than if you are going to watch this on a huge screen. They also made it available to everyone in all formats, QT, Flash, Google Video, audio podcast on their site, iTunes, and others including on Podzinger.
He thanked BMW which, he says, gave them HUGE support (his emphasis, not mine). He says it was probably the largest underwriting of any podcast series ever.
Oh, and they put everything into Creative Commons. You can republish the talks on your own site!!! He specifically thanked June Cohen and Jason Wishnow, TED producer and editor.
This is awesome content. They dramatically raised the bar we’ll all need to meet with Internet video.

The site and video look great, but I don’t know if they raised the bar. The tools to produce quality online video are available(Flash 8). Mix this with a clean design and quality multi-camera production, and you look good real fast. (The talent helps too)
I think the contrast is between video blogs and user generated video sites (Flash 7) vs. something that was professionally produced for the web.
A little effort goes a long way with this medium.

The pitch was the perfect nexus of passion, data visualization and professorial insights. Thanks for the post. A perfect example of the true power of video.

You were asking the other day what formats we’d like to see PodTech do their thang in… I think you now have your answer

“dramatically” raised the bar? How hard is it raise the bar that is sitting on the ground?(which is where the majority of video done by geeks is right now) See what a little effort and preparation can do. It’s pretty easy to raise the bar over something that is lazily done.

Effort and preparation no doubt, but I think money tends to play a large roll in these kinds of things as well.

Take a look, the future!…
I have always loved numbers. Plot them on a graph and you get some amazing insights. Now, there is an event called TED talks, that is an annual event, where some very high profile speakers come and speak their mind…….
BMW is very wise, even if I say so myself…

Once I was video conferencing with my college classmate and I had to go on a bathroom break, my computer was completely idle till when my kid sister thought it was just a movie so while she was just playing around with the mouse and my classmate scared her by conferencing. It was very scary for her but it was funny.
