    Here’s a clue - airplane ignition systems (for small aircraft) are dual magnetos. Not electronic ignition. Simple, reliable, bulletproof.

    Even if I were to use the computer to gather the info, I’d print it and use paper.

    Now marine navigation is different. So far I’m looking for the killer open source solution to build a ship’s computer for my yacht now that NOAA is making echarts free for download. Maybe your tablet would be good for this - but it needs to be immersible in seawater. I don’t know of any that are apart from dedicated systems that might be PC’s under the hood - but are more appliance than computer.
