Come on, we all know it's not politically correct to like Windows Vista or Internet Explorer! So, as my bedtime treat, these bloggers must be banned. Heheh.

Chrono Tron was #1 on WordPress.com yesterday, but just made a big mistake by posting Advantages of Vista and IE 7. But, he saved himself by saying the delay sucks. Oh, OK, you get a pass Chrono! Saved by using the word "sucks" within a post about Vista and IE 7.
For everyone else, let's not have any more of this kind of talk. If you do, Shelley Powers might link to you and believe me, you don't want her to do that! :-)

Seriously, though, if Vista development was more transparent and Microsoft informed its customers and users rather than feeding them vague bullshit, these rumors wouldn’t have had any traction in the first place. Use Channel 9 a little less as a marketing tool and a little more as a honest, informative tunnel to your most dedicated users and critics.

Durr: I would have, but we didn’t have enough time to get Channel 9 involved and I was working a conference at the time.
There simply isn’t a good way to say “we slipped shipment.” There would have been unhappy people no matter what we would have done. And the bullshit wasn’t very vague. Everyone in the industry figured it out within five minutes of reading our releases. There were groups of people talking about it at Mix06 and there wasn’t any confusion about what it meant there.
Go back and look at Channel 9, or look here, or look on Slashdot. There was no confusion. No questions about “what does this mean?”
No, this news wasn’t confusing, it pissed people off, understandably. Heck, I was pissed, too. You think we all cheered when we heard this news? No. It was a bitter pill to swallow.
I got pissed because there was plenty of negative news to use against us without going out and making up even more negative news.
And, yes, I wish the press release had been written better. Hopefully next time we just get you the facts and deliver the bitter news straight up. I agree it would have gotten better if the language were clearer.

Yes, because how great are Vista and IE7 are is better told by geeks, not by users. Just ask those guys you are now holding hostages how much DRM/TPM content they have used so far ans how much they like it more in this new power controlled world Microsoft is backing.
The only way to read your posts lately in a sane way is by assuming you are only joking at the whole thing. Any other way you are insane.

There’s a limit to how transparent you can make things and still give people the ability to say things in a private meeting.
When you work on projects like Vista, or Photoshop, there are things that get said that sound really bad to someone who’s not part of the group, but are actually a sign that things are working right.

Anyone who knows anything about developement could see that the 60% claim was bogus. I’d be surprised if even 1% of the code was changed from now til RTM. The blogospeare should have known better.
The delay story is a different animal, however. In that case we _still_ haven’t heard the full story. _Why_ was there a delay? Is there a particular problem that is causing the delay? Will this delay affect the final product in any way? And what about Office? Is there an actual delay in their developement or is it being pushed back just to coincide with Vista?
It’s not to late to put something up on Channel9. I am still waiting for the candid interview with someone on the team. (”Yeah, I was the one who noticed that there was a major bug in the rendering of the new Start button. That’s what is causing the delay. What we have to do now is revert back to the old one from Win95, and that was written in assembly, so we’re moving it to managed code now…”)

Yeah, there is. You come right out and say what will be done and what won’t be done on time. Emphasize the importance of the features you’re still working on and make clear the desire of those involved to get those features working as splendidly as possible. I mean, this is Spin 101 - take the lemons and make lemonade. Five years worth of stumbling development and five years worth of dedicated, persistent work are differentiated only by the way you present the effort.
I sympathize with the growing discontent of Microsoft employees. I notice one consistent theme in their complaints - management. If the product can’t hit its date, its up to management to cover their developers’ backs. If they had done so, these 60% code rumors (however grossly untrue they are) wouldn’t have been such an embarassment for the Vista team. Such a hard-working group of guys deserve better from their leaders.

Reading your blog recently, I have noticed a distinct change in tone. I generally enjoy the blog but posts like this come across as someone who is very bitter and angry and do nothing but encourage the silly folks. Obviously, if you are going to be in the public eye you are going to get criticized. It seems to me, in reading the blog recently, you are having a little trouble staying above the fray. I would love to see you go back to the positive outlook on tech, and constructive criticism of your company and others, instead of the defensive tone that you have taken recently. I realize this is easier said than done, just my two cents.

Hmm….Robert Scoble linking outside, definitely quite a treat I must admit. While Vista and IE7 both have their fair share of advantages and disadvantages, I must admit, the blogopshere has been highly unjust towards Vista and IE7 and to a certain extent yourself Mr.Robert Scoble.
While somtimes, your snobbishness got it for you, sometimes your acting as an excessive PR guy did. As for the rest, MS is going through a bad patch now (and so will be google soon), and it might take a near miracle to catch back the eyes of the net.
If you had read the last part in my article, you might perhaps see that onlineoffline part as the “M”.
Finally, most of the blogosphere has been to cruel to Vista in particular (IE perhaps there has not been nothing new except it’s got most of Opera’s & Fx’s features++). Most of them have been influenced by the anti-vista reviews on Digg & Slashdot and I can swear many have not even tried Vista out. Shame, cause one blog post is all it takes to influence people though as a blogger this makes me happy.
To end this useless rant, I’d like to say one thing. Be glad if you could convey this to the Vista team or Allchin or Uncle Bill or whomever so. The thing that users really want to see is innovation. We want to see something that’s never been seen before, the reason we switched over to 95 or 3.1. We want a true operating system!!

I have noticed a change in tone here lately, in your posts and in your comments. It is extremely difficult not no respond emotionally at times, and then hit the publish button too quickly.
But then the beat goes on, as this post title fans the flame.
I think a straight post with links highlighting the detailed experiences of current users of Vista and IE7 would have been more useful.

Wow, this post is absolutely ridiculous.
Microsoft as a company has made a lot of headway with people were formerly very anti-microsoft, myself included, but this post seems specifically aimed to stop that.
How about embracing the support of the web standards community?
But then again, you’re the genius that made a post supporting ugly design and then promptly became a judge for a CSS design contest.
