Microsoft acquires MotionBridge

Nice to see Microsoft acquiring MotionBridge. At Northern Voice I asked our “geeking out” audience who was reading blogs regularly on cell phones and several hands went up. That’s a change over last year and one I expect to see accelerate this year. So, buying a search engine aimed at mobile Internet users makes a lot of sense. This takes us from being out of the running on cell phone search to a leading position.

I hear Microsoft’s mergers and acquisitions department is much more focused and enabled than in the past and that it’s looking for good companies to acquire. I’m cheering them on! Congrats to the team who got this done.

  • No I wasn't joking, or did you saw any "ha ha" in my post? ;)

@Christopher: Well, kind of, I came to wordpress last...uhmmm December? flock! I can't remember!
  • Oh,, another great idea has been certified.

    Nice marketroid-speak Scoble.

Are they looking to 'synergize and 'think outside the box' on these mergers?

Alejandro, he's a 'lover' for hire; Scoble for Hire, not quite Spenser. You been under a rock for past 2 years? :)

Mobile search engine? Geek edge thing. M&A focused? Oh please. It's bits and pieces, trying to make sense out of a yet unformed puzzle.

If you want Mobile focus, should just slurp up Blackberry, end the lawsuits and have a push solution, with millions of customers, that can eventually overlay your Windows Mobile 5 OS into. The Barcelona Windows Mobile announcement, push-email copycatting, finally here, rolls eyes, wow geee pretty timely there. Only getting traction as Blackberry is down for count by court fiat.

Hey push-email announced at 3GSM, another big Microsoft news event you missed. And STILL another...you forgot about FutureSoft?
  • Alejandro: you've gotta be kidding, right?
  • I thought you were just a MS lover, didn't knew that you were working for them.
  • So what is MotionBridge like an AOL for cell phones or what? We all know how well that closed model turned out don't we...

Google already has search tailored for mobile devices and also modifies the pages in the results to display better on the mobile device so why would someone want to use a closed system that only provides limited results? It is just like the crap portals that come as the home page on most cell phones through the associated carrier that I always bypass and go straight to Google or to the site in question as the portals just get in your way.
  • Guy: we already make keyboards and mice and Xbox'es (and help our partners design all sorts of stuff). What hardware are you thinking about?
  • So with all of this growth potential, when is Microsoft going to start developing it's own hardware. I would like to see what MS can do for the ultimate internet interface device that will tie in all of the communications and collaboration needs of the masses.
  • Innocent: just like our previous acquisitions, right? Like PowerPoint, Hotmail, Bungie, Flight Simulator...
  • Innocent Bystander
Oh look, another company about to never be heard from again.
