Orb releases Web Voice messaging for Skype

I just got a voice mail from Ian McCarthy, VP of marketing at Orb announcing V4S, the first software for free Web voice messaging, enabling users to send voice messages to any email or Skype contact. Works on mobile phones too. First time I’ve gotten a product pitch via voice mail. I hope that doesn’t become a common thing, but why not go the next step? “Send to podcast.” Now that’d be cool!

  • The Podcast thing is almost there. I should know I've had my head down in the voice messaging platform for the last 6 months or so. It's cool what Orb's got especially the mobile component.
  • Funny how much I've heard the "I hope that doesn't become a common thing" since we went Beta with V4S (I still like plain-text email too, if you're reading this, Marc).

    Re the podcasting: right now V4S mainly enables quick "friendcasting" of your voice from any browser to a bunch of folks for whom you already have email or Skype contact info - but that's only the start, yupp

    What I wonder, given the time of year, is how much of the early use of this tool will be to "call" family without having to get into a conversation at all; not that I myself would do such a thing *koff*
