#70: The Search Engine Experiment

Think your search engine is the most relevant?

Well, Digg today links to the search engine experiment. You enter a search term, it makes you choose which one is most relevant. Very interesting results. Thanks to Jason Alexandrian for emailing this to me.

How interesting, MSN wins just about every time in my testing; I had expected it to be Google.

Google won on the search for my name. :-)

MSN won for some of my typical searches. But I don’t like that it is spitting out only 3 results for each. The fact is the search engines give you 10 results and even the people that only do one word searches and never click for a second page still see those 10 results. Sure, you’d like the absolute most relevant search to be in the top 3, but if a search engine generally gets it in the top 10, that’s fine for me.

Every time I try it just says “One of the search engines isn’t playing ball right now please wait a while, then try again.”
