I’m speaking to the UEFA

I’m speaking to some members/VP’s from UEFA in a few minutes. Don’t know who they are? I didn’t either. It’s the governing body of football on the continent of Europe. No, dummy, not THAT kind of football. It’s soccer! Interesting site and group, should be a fun conversation.

Update: it was a fun conversation I’m back in my office now. I didn’t get any game tickets (sigh) but they gave me a hat! I’m a swag whore, so that’ll do. What was fun was I showed them how anyone can blog about them and get discovered. My post took less than 30 minutes to show up on Feedster, for instance.

This was a very tech savvy group. Most use an RSS aggregator and they have RSS Feeds too. I am very impressed!

By the way, most folks in the UK, Ireland, etc pronounce the acronym “Way-fah” or “You-ay-fah.”

Go see ‘Green Street Hooligans’ (Dougie Brimson’s story) or Irvine Welsh’s ‘The Football Factory’ (based on Tony Rivers and David Jones, Soul Crewish book). Half the game, not even in the stadium, well in the UK, I mean great drama in Chelsea’s Headhunters attacking Millwall’s Bushwhackers, or vice versa.

You lucky bastard. If they need some help from an actual football fan, let me know. And, you know, if they offer you any World Cup tickets, I’d be glad to take those off your hands.

    Some useful football terms:

    nutmeg
    dummy
    through-ball

All joking aside, if they’re looking for some examples of sports blogs by professional teams and players, here are a couple that spring to mind:

    http://blog.canucks.com/
    http://benroethlisberger.typepad.com/

I’m definitely in the “You-ay-fah” camp.

As if the UEFA needs to be discovered, that’s like blogging about MLB.com or NBA.com, like they would care if they get in Feedster. Pluuuezze. And MLB.com has it’s own bloggish aggregator to boot.

Christopher: do you have a job at a corporation like MLB.com or NBA.com? I didn’t think so. They care. Otherwise I wouldn’t keep getting invited to speak to groups like this.

And it’s not about them getting in Feedster. It’s being able to watch what their fans are SAYING about them in Feedster.

Ummm, it’s called ‘research’ or ‘using blog search engines’ or Cymfony Brand Dashboard or using Lexis/Nexis, blogs are but one part, and the problem with only looking at blogs is that you get the extreme high’s and extreme low’s, you don’t get the really valuable middle data, which is where things like Mystery Shops and Audits come in.

Speaking of Brand Dashboard, that’s an impressive piece of work, imho. You should check it out, toasts most every news-searching tool out there, imho. Gives you the widest and most precise media analysis picture ever. It’s not consumer-marketed, but then it really performs. Grand big world beyond just blogs, and you have to place things in context.

Looking through UEFA:s Terms and Conditions - did you ask permission to link to their web site?

In the event that you wish to establish a link to the Website, you expressly agree:

    • to ask prior written approval of UEFA to establish a link to the Website;

Am I the only one who find “terms and conditions” like these, laughable?

Christopher - thanks for mentioning Cymfony. I work there and I think our product is pretty impressive too. It seeks out all commments about a team, brand, company or issue - not just those made by the top bloggers. Robert - if you’d like to see the latest release sometime when you get through all your emails, I’dbe happy to show it to you. http://www.cymfony.com/sol_orchestra.asp
