How to fix boring corporate blogs (interview with Shel Israel)

Rolls Eyes…so much over-the-top complete-hyped up hubris, and the reinterpretation of the Ballmer standdown is quite self-serving. You just saw which way wind was blowing and piped in, long after it was safe to do so. Low risk. You didn’t do anything. If you really want to risk things and get fired in 30 seconds, easy enough to do so.

But the final kicker is a groaner…

My advice to publishers is to not just think outside the box, but assume the box is gone forever.

Wow, so you mean close down all bookstores? Kill magazines, and just publish on blogs and Wiki’s? The next great American Novel (or Screenplay) will be a blog? Does Barnes and Noble know this? Does Warner Brothers? Someone alert the Wall Street Journal that it’s all over. If he REALLY followed his OWN advice, why would you do a BOOK in the first place? But the answer is easy, because a book is a PRODUCT and you can get a LARGE ADVANCE, it is easily monetized. The blog will be a OFFSHOOT of the book. And that’s how it will forever work.

Plus he’s self-contradicting, saying it’s only a tool, but yet it has replaced all other tools, and is the only future, the “box is gone forever”, but then that it will be replaced. Geesh, saying yes, no, maybe in one big stream, already a blogger mentality. Blah, the bottom line is he’s just an opportunist that attached himself to a big name to cry revolution all the way to the bank. Pit the underdog yapping-pippy toy-dog against the vast armines of the world. When the Armies cherry-pick out the good, you can go back, revise history, and claim victory, as “you saw it all along”. Deep down, you know that’s true. Any serious study of history shows this pattern in things “revolutionary”, nothing different here.
